Employers Using Facebook: Unethical or Just?

More and more these days employers are logging onto social networking sites such as Facebook and MySpace to conduct "mini" background checks on potential employees - namely, students and recent grads. Furthermore, many may be making hiring decisions based solely on what they see and read.

if you don't want someone to read..don't put it on there...its all public..so i'd be careful on what goes up on the page

not all public..but you never know who will see it..better to be safe then sorry

I absolutely believe that if you make your information public knowledge- then it is just that PUBLIC knowledge. But I do have one question: when an employer goes on say, facebook, to check a potential employee out- if your profile is limited to only friends- don't they have to request your friendship to even see your profile? Or do companies have a way of getting around this?
