Russell Brand: VMA Genius or Lame Host Pushing Politics?

I'll be honest...I thought Russell Brand turned out to be an awful choice for MTV's 2008 VMA host. He wasn't funny, he looked ridiculous, and frankly, does anyone even know who he is? Furthermore, he used his position as host to push his completely irrelevant political agenda. Regardless of which candidate he was endorsing, I felt that it would have been more appropriate to encourage the audience to vote as opposed to telling them which candidate to vote for. So what do you think? Was Russell Brand a witty host or obnoxious "entertainer"?

He is big in the UK and he was in Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

Was he the only one available? MTV must not be doing so well.

Hiring Russell is the only good move MTV have made for years. He is the only reason I bothered to watch the VMA's.
