I had the most fabulous SLC caterer for my wedding last year. They gave me some great tips on throwing a positively chic and beautiful affair without breaking the bank - so I thought I'd share with all those brides-to-be out there.
Omit Courses
The traditional five course meal served at many a wedding dinners can be long and extremely expensive. So try serving a three course meal that is absolutely divine? No one will notice (or even care, for that matter) if you cut out a soup option or an extra desert.
Non-Dinner Options
Dinner is by far the most expensive meal, so why not serve breakfast, brunch, lunch, or dessert only (depending on the time of day)? Doing so can literally cut your catering costs in half and allow you to have a reception that breaks from the norm.
Cocktail Hour
If you're having an adults-only soiree, consider having a cocktail reception with only drinks and hore d'oeuvres. Keep in mind, this is only appropriate if you're reception is not during a traditional meal time.
Go Casual
Your reception doesn't have to be stiff, formal affair. Go for something more casual and serve fun comfort food such as finger sandwiches, fruit kabobs, soup shots, or an ice cream bar.
